Square Enix Announces 'NieR Replicant' Remaster and New Mobile Title
Celebrating the franchise’s 10th anniversary.
Celebrating the franchise’s 10th anniversary this April, Japanese game studio Square Enix has announced a new remastered edition of NieR Replicant. The game was originally released in 2010 as a Japan exclusive for the PlayStation 3 while the rest of the world received NieR Gestalt, which was also available on the Xbox 360. Now titled NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139, the game will be remastered for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, as well as PC via Steam, and will be developed by Toylogic instead of Platinum Games, which made NieR Automata in 2017. Square Enix also released a new trailer for the game along with its announcement (which you can check out above), though aside from showcasing some of the scenes and main themes involved, you don’t really see much more about the upcoming title.
Aside from the new remaster, the Japanese studio also unveiled the first mobile game from the franchise, dubbed NieR Reincarnation. Information regarding it is still scarce at this point, but the game will be available on both Android and iOS, and will be a free-to-play RPG with in-game microtransactions.
There’s currently no release date for either game, so fans of the NieR franchise should definitely be on the lookout for more news to come.
Elsewhere in gaming, GameStop will be closing at least another 320 stores over the next 12 months.
