Square Enix has announced the Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary: The Crystal Vinyl Edition, presenting a comprehensive double LP that celebrates four decades of the iconic fantasy role-playing franchise. The commemorative release gathers one defining composition from every mainline game across the series’ history.

Tracing the saga’s evolution from its 1987 debut on the Nintendo Entertainment System through to Final Fantasy 16, the compilation surveys the musical landmarks that have shaped generations of gaming. According to the publisher, the double LP gathers melodies that have colored the franchise’s storytelling, highlighting “moments of epic journeys, bonds of friendship, battles against formidable enemies, and unforgettable farewells” across an album that “traces that 40-year journey through music.”

The release also arrives alongside a newly announced orchestral tour, Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy Eternal / 悠久, set to begin in March. The live performances will honor the series’ historic composers, including Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura, and Masayoshi Soken.
