Square Enix Sets April 2027 Release Date for ‘Final Fantasy VII Revelation’

Square Enix has set Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the closing chapter of its sprawling Remake project, for release on April 8, 2027. Revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play with a fresh trailer and an extended gameplay deep dive, the finale arrives across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Xbox on PC.
The headline change is scale. Revelation opens the planet into a genuinely borderless world, letting players roam every corner aboard the series’ iconic Highwind airship. Traversal gets its own companion in Piko, a Chocobo that grows alongside the party and picks up new movement and combat abilities over time, while a new grappling gun lets characters scale rooftops and zip through the environment at speed.
Combat builds on the hybrid system the trilogy is known for, now reshaped by the new FITS system. FITS grants abilities and higher tiers of power through specialized roles, including Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner, with the extended footage showing new playable character Cid in the Knight FITS and returning fan favorite Vincent in the Summoner FITS. Beyond the two additions to the roster, players can freely swap their active character and rework the party at any point during exploration, and can steer the narrative by choosing which members take on specific quests, changing how certain events play out.
All of that flexibility feeds into a story pitched as the end of the line. Cloud Strife and his companions face a world on the edge of annihilation, grieving a fallen ally as Sephiroth closes in on godhood. The party takes to the skies aboard the Highwind in a race to stop Meteor, the ultimate destructive magic, before it wipes out the planet entirely.
The finale also caps a trilogy that arrived with heavy expectations and largely met them. The first two entries, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, drew wide acclaim, together collecting more than 140 perfect review scores along with Game of the Year recognition. For newcomers or lapsed fans, both remain available with a Streamlined Progression option, offering tweaks like unlimited HP and MP and an always-full ATB gauge to ease the catch-up, and save data from either game unlocks bonus summons and weapon skins in Revelation.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches April 8, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with physical and digital pre-orders open now (digital Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders to follow) at global retailers and the Square Enix Store.
