Sony and the LEGO Group have revealed the LEGO PlayStation, a brick replica of the original console and controller

The 1,911-piece build recreates the hardware at close to 1:1 scale and folds in functional details and hidden nods to PlayStation history

Two removable game dioramas tied to Ape Escape and Gran Turismo extend the set into a display piece marking 30 years of the platform

Sony and the LEGO Group have unveiled the LEGO PlayStation, a buildable replica of the original PlayStation console and controller shown during the September 3 State of Play. It is the first time fans can construct the debut hardware brick by brick, arriving as a tribute to a platform that has been in players’ hands for more than three decades.

The set runs to 1,911 pieces and lands at a near 1:1 recreation of the console, measuring 10.5 inches, or 26 cm, wide once fully assembled. Rather than a static shelf model, it carries functional mechanisms: the Power and Open buttons work, and the included controller can plug into the console, giving the finished piece a layer of interactivity beyond the display.

Working with LEGO designers, PlayStation built the assembly around its own origins, tucking hidden references to the platform’s history into the process. Two of those references become their own modules, pulling in a pair of games that launched on the original console. The Gran Turismo diorama includes a miniature track with scaled-down cars, while the Ape Escape diorama sets up a nostalgic island scene with a swappable blue or red light on the monkey’s helmet. Both dioramas can be removed and displayed on their own, and each carries customizable elements, so the set functions as three connected pieces rather than one fixed sculpture.

By recreating the 1994 hardware and threading in Ape Escape and Gran Turismo, the set reaches back to the era that defined the brand’s first generation, aiming squarely at players who have followed PlayStation since launch as much as newer fans. The result positions the LEGO PlayStation less as a toy and more as a physical marker of the platform’s 30-plus-year run, built to sit on a shelf as a piece of console history.

The LEGO PlayStation goes on sale via the PlayStation webstore and for LEGO Insiders Early Access starting October 1, then reaches the LEGO webstore and LEGO Stores on October 4.
