This PlayStation 1 Keepsake Ornament Fires Up the Console's Iconic Startup Sound at the Press of a Button
Designed by artist Orville Wilson, Hallmark’s light-and-sound ornament shrinks the mid-’90s console and its controller into a palm-sized, battery-powered tree decoration.
Hallmark has added the PlayStation Console Ornament With Light and Sound to its 2026 Keepsake collection, turning the original PlayStation into a palm-sized Christmas ornament that does more than hang from a branch. Designed by artist Orville Wilson, the piece recreates Sony’s landmark console and its accompanying controller in miniature, with a working power button that lights up the unit and plays the PS1’s signature startup sequence.
The ornament measures 4 inches wide, 3.75 inches tall, and 1.5 inches deep, placing it in the mid-range of Hallmark’s Keepsake lineup in terms of physical footprint. It is constructed in plastic with a hanger attachment for tree display, though its detail level and interactive features position it equally well as a shelf or desk piece for collectors who would rather keep it visible year-round.
The light-and-sound mechanism is the centerpiece. Pressing the ornament’s power button triggers both an LED illumination and a playback of the original PlayStation console startup sound, the ascending chime-and-shimmer sequence that became one of the most recognizable audio signatures in gaming. Three LR44 alkaline button batteries power the effect and come pre-installed, so the ornament is functional out of the box. The console replica is accompanied by a miniature controller, completing the visual pairing that defined living rooms across the mid-to-late 1990s.
The original PlayStation launched in Japan in 1994 and in North America in 1995, and it fundamentally altered the gaming landscape by bringing disc-based, 3D-rendered games to a mainstream consumer audience.
