Buffer Turns ‘The Land Before Time’ Into the Theme Park Merch That Never Existed
Reimagining the 1988 animated classic.
Summary
Buffer is releasing a three-piece 'The Land Before Time' T-shirt collection built around the concept of merchandise from an imaginary theme park
The capsule includes the "Little Foots" tee featuring a graphic by illustrator Shuntaro Takeuchi, the "Stamp" tee illustrated as if worn by kids running through the park, and the "Dinosaur Park" tee capturing the film's characters in a single reimagined scene
Buffer, the graphics-driven label operated by HUMAN MADE Inc., is dropping a three-piece The Land Before Time T-shirt collection that treats the 1988 animated film not as a licensing exercise but as the foundation for an entirely fictional souvenir universe. Each of the three tees is designed as if it were pulled from the gift shop of a Land Before Time theme park that never existed, filtering the film’s cast of young dinosaurs through Buffer’s illustrative lens.
The creative premise is consistent across the capsule but plays out differently on each piece. The “Little Foots” tee carries a graphic by illustrator Shuntaro Takeuchi, conceived as an imagined official poster produced by Buffer. The design centers on Littlefoot, the young Brontosaurus who anchors the original film’s narrative. Available in Black and White, it sits closest to a traditional graphic tee in format while leaning on Takeuchi’s hand to give it an authored quality that separates it from standard licensed product.
The “Stamp” tee takes the fictional-merch concept a step further. Its graphic was illustrated with the specific image of children wearing the shirt itself as they move through a theme park, creating a recursive loop where the product imagines its own context of use. It ships in White and Black, and like the “Little Foots” tee, carries a purchase limit of two per customer.
The “Dinosaur Park” tee rounds out the trio with the broadest composition: a single panoramic scene capturing the film’s beloved dinosaurs mid-adventure, reimagined through Buffer’s visual language. It is the only piece in the collection offered in three colorways (Green, Blue, and White) and carries a slightly higher purchase limit of three.
The Land Before Time was executive-produced by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas and released in 1988. The film follows Littlefoot and his companions, including Cera the Triceratops, Petrie the Pteranodon, Ducky the duck-billed dinosaur, and Spike the Stegosaurus, through a story built on courage and friendship. It eventually expanded into a 14-film franchise, with Diana Ross’s “If We Hold On Together” serving as its signature theme. Buffer’s collection draws on that legacy without reproducing it literally, instead building an imagined world around the IP that feels more like fan fiction rendered in cotton than a conventional brand tie-in. HUMAN MADE, the parent company behind Buffer, was founded by NIGO and has long operated at the intersection of Japanese streetwear and nostalgic pop-culture reinterpretation.
The The Land Before Time x Buffer collection drops July 25 via Buffer’s online store.
