Summary

LEGO has recreated the 2011 cover of Detective Comics #880 as a dimensional wall art set built for adult fans

The design stacks multiple layers so The Joker's eyes and features project outward from the surface

A second, deeper layer conceals smaller details that only reveal themselves on closer inspection

LEGO has unveiled The Joker Wall Art Comic Cover, a 1,849-piece set that translates the 2011 cover of Detective Comics #880 into a sculptural, brick-built portrait. Designed for builders 18 and up, the piece sits within the LEGO Art lineup and swaps the flat mosaic approach for a layered build that gives the Clown Prince of Crime genuine depth on the wall.

The construction is where this set breaks from a standard brick mosaic. Rather than a single plane of tiles, the build stacks components so The Joker’s eyes and other key features physically protrude from the backing, creating a 3D effect that shifts as the viewer moves around it. The result reads less like a print and more like a relief sculpture.

LEGO paid close attention to the character’s signature traits. His tangled, unkempt hair, oversized lips and menacing smile are all rendered in brick, capturing the unhinged energy of the source art. Look past the face and a hidden layer comes into focus, with Batarangs, swords and flowers worked into the design alongside a repeated “Ha, ha, ha, ha,” the villain’s unofficial motto spelled out in pieces.

Finished, the set stands over 20 in. (51 cm) tall, 15 in. (38 cm) wide and 2 in. (5 cm) deep. It can mount directly on a wall or rest upright on a shelf, giving collectors flexibility on display.

The cover itself carries weight among DC readers. Detective Comics #880 arrived in 2011 during writer Scott Snyder’s “The Black Mirror” storyline, with cover art by Jock that has since become one of the most recognizable modern Joker images. LEGO’s decision to recreate it rather than a more conventional heroic Batman scene signals a set aimed squarely at longtime comic fans, the kind who know the issue number on sight.

It also slots into LEGO’s broader push toward display-first builds for adults, where the appeal lies as much in the finished object on the wall as in the hours spent assembling it. Here, that formula meets one of comics’ most enduring villains.

The LEGO The Joker Wall Art Comic Cover is available for pre-order now online, with shipping set to begin January 1, 2027.
