Summary

Buffer, the label helmed by creative director Tetsu Nishiyama and operated by HUMAN MADE, has teamed with the 1982 American teen movie for a graphics-led collection

The collaboration runs to three T-shirt styles, each filtering the film through Buffer's own design lens

A set of Buffer original pieces rounds out the release, including a long-sleeve T-shirt that reworks the brand's main logo

Buffer, the brand led by creative director Tetsu Nishiyama and operated by HUMAN MADE, is releasing a collaboration collection with Fast Times at Ridgemont High, the 1982 American high-school comedy. The capsule reads the film’s world through Buffer’s graphic sensibility, landing as a tight run of T-shirts rather than a sprawling licensing exercise.

The collaboration centers on three T-shirt designs, each taking a different route into the source material. One is handled by illustrator Naoki Shoji, who builds his piece around the movie as a motif. A second prints a run of the film’s memorable scenes directly onto the shirt, leaning on recognizable imagery. The third distills the movie down to a single line, translating its emblematic rule “NO SHIRTS, NO SHOES, NO DICE” into a standalone graphic.

That three-way split is where the technical intent shows. Rather than slapping a single still on a blank, Buffer treats the film as raw material to be reinterpreted, moving from illustration to photographic scene print to text-driven graphic across the set. It is a small collection built to cover distinct graphic registers instead of repeating one idea in different colors.

The film crossover also fits a longer pattern for the label. Buffer has built a throughline of movie-referencing capsules, and pairing with a 1982 teen comedy slots neatly into a graphic language rooted in American pop-culture nostalgia. Fast Times at Ridgemont High carries a specific early-80s Americana that maps onto Nishiyama’s ongoing interest in vintage US reference points, giving the T-shirts a cultural anchor beyond the artwork itself.

Alongside the collaboration, Buffer is offering its own originals in the same drop. Those include a T-shirt drawing on 1990s street culture and a long-sleeve T-shirt that reconstructs the brand’s main logo, extending the release past the film tie-in and into Buffer’s core graphic identity.

The Buffer x Fast Times at Ridgemont High collection releases September 5 at Buffer Store and the Buffer official online store.
