WACKO MARIA Imbues Jean-Michel Basquiat Artworks Over Hawaiian Shirts
Three abstract shirts for the summer.
WACKO MARIA has immortalized three works by Jean-Michel Basquiat over its signature Hawaiian shirt silhouette. They’re the latest statement pieces from WACKO MARIA’s Spring/Summer 2020 lineup, following the Mandarin-style shirts unveiled just yesterday.
The Japanese label decided to highlight Basquiat’s three works In Italian, 1983, Untitled, 1984 and Untitled (Three Kings). Each shirt showcases a large portion of the original paintings, such as the green In Italian, 1983 piece, detailed with various haunting sketches, abstract portraits and erratically written words like “TEETH” and “DIAGRAM OF THE HEART PUMPING BLOOD.” The Untitled, 1984 shirt is colored with a series of dark green faces and red flames over a white base, while the Untitled (Three Kings) piece depicts three stick figures over a cream-colored backdrop. All three shirts come with a boxy fit with notched lapels and crisp white buttons for a refined look and feel.
The Jean-Michel Basquiat x WACKO MARIA Hawaiian Shirts will be available on April 4 at WACKO MARIA’s website for $325 USD.
