Karhu Crafts Aria 95 Sneaker Inspired by Beloved Moomin Characters
Featuring a ski print based off of Tove Jansson’s ‘Moominland Midwinter’ book.

After returning to two of its signature silhouettes for a colorful “Monthless” pack, Finnish footwear label Karhu is now launching a Aria 95 shoe inspired by Tove Jansson’s adored Moomin characters. After searching through the Moomin Character’s digital archive, Karhu chose ski drawings from the 1957 book Moominland Midwinter to decorate the mid-90s runner. Coincidentally, the Aria 95’s upper design resembles the hill that Moomintroll learns to ski on in the story.
An all-over print of the skiing Moomintroll is found on the tongue’s seamless upper construction, while one side of the heel features a small graphic of the worried-looking Moomin character. A colorful print, accented with the 75th anniversary Moomin logo, informs the footbed design. Inspired by the book’s original illustrated cover, the sneaker arrives in a “Rainy Day/Stellar” colorway. Orange mesh paneling on the uppers contrast with dark blue and gray pigskin suede — references to the story’s snow-covered Moominvalley.
The Moomins Karhu Aria 95 will launch February 22 for £125 (approx. $160 USD) via an online raffle on HANON’s website.
Elsewhere in footwear, Fear of God Essentials and Converse revisit the Chuck 70 Hi for a new black/egret colorway.
