Following its Fall/Winter 2019 collection inspired by supernatural phenomena and Netflix’s Stranger Things, Indice Studio returns for the Spring/Summer 2020 season with its “Somnambulist” collection. Similar to the past collection’s darker themes, “Somnambulist” draws influence from the 1920 German silent horror film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and explores Creative Director Hao Lee’s intrigue with somnambulism and psychiatric disorders.
The SS20 collection portrays the blurred boundary between dreams and reality: an interweave design “conveys bits and pieces of a dream,” while the garments’ deconstructed aesthetic plays with ideas of illusion and reality. Elsewhere, old imagery is updated for a mysterious allure and a traditional Taiwanese cloud pattern is reinterpreted with Western techniques. Different apparel and accessory hybrids — such as coat and shirt, shirt and T-shirt, and talisman and choker — are found throughout the collection.
Highlights of “Somnambulist” include patterned pajama-inspired shirts, loose fitting trousers, zip-off pants and trench coats. Like Indice Studio’s SS19 collection, the latest range features patchworked gear, highlighting the brand’s deconstructionist method. Accent details such as pockets, panels, zippers and chains give the otherwise understated apparel edgier elements. Rounding out the collection are colorful T-shirts sporting sketch-like illustrations.
