Shortly after learning about the collaboration, we now have a closer look at COSTSFDMTL x New Balance 2002R.

Part of the ongoing New Balance 2002R GALLERY project, the team-up from the Shenzhen-based retailer sees Japanese label FDMTL take on the popular footwear model. Combining five different textile types, COSTS’ FDMTL x New Balance 2002R is a celebration of traditional Japanese denim craftsmanship.

The upper of the shoe features a pearl weave base accented by overlays of matching blue suede, blue tone stitching all around also ties the two-tone Sashiko fabric found on the tongue and heel together. Branding comes in the form of two sets of printed insoles, framed “N” motifs at the midfoot, embroidery at the vamp and tongue, printed New Balance and 2002R hits found at the rear and co-branded laces marked by dashes. Elevating the shoe are blue ABZORB midsoles assisted by SBS ABZORB heel cushioning paired with Stability Web and N-ergy outsoles.

The collaboration also comes packaged in a special shoebox with a hidden design that is revealed by peeling away perforated slips. Tearing of the Sashiko inspired covering reveals COSTS signature lychee pattern made up of splashes of the fruit laced between intertwining strands.

Priced at ¥1199 RMB (approximately $181 USD), COSTS’ FDMTL x New Balance 2002R collaboration will be available exclusively at COSTS and FDMTL locations November 20.
