Berlin-based creative Patrick Mason has reworked one of Ray-Ban‘s most iconic silhouettes, the State Street sunglasses. In this collaboration with Ray-Ban Studios — the brand’s innovative creative hub — the duo presents just 100 handmade pairs each produced in Italy, giving the State Street an avant-garde yet vintage twist.

The idea of oblivion and the creation of the universe served as Mason’s visionary starting point, combining opposing elements to create one harmonious design. The “Obsidian Black” frame transitions into “Amber,” which is split inbetween thanks to a dash of UV-sensitive fluorescent green. The black component is raw and roughly finished, which contrasts the smoothness of the amber and fluo colors beneath.

Elsewhere, the top of the frame is wavy and uneven, while the gold Ray-Ban logo now sits superimposed onto cutting-edge lightly mirrored photochromatic lenses that switch from clear to gray. Magnetic balls on the arms and interior have been put in place in order to keep the accompanying glasses chain in place, which itself is chunky and playful.

The Patrick Mason x Ray-Ban Studios glasses are served in a unique egg-shaped case, and come with limited-edition extras including a signed card from Mason, a co-branded pouch, and an addition carrying case. Take a look at the Patrick Mason x Ray-Ban Studios State Street sunglasses above, and pick up a pair now from Dover Street Market, Ray-Ban stores, and Ray-Ban’s website.
