Off-White™ and Jordan Brand Officially Announce the Air Jordan 5 "Sail" and Accompanying Apparel
The highly anticipated shoes are presented with a sweatshirt, warmup pants and unique t-shirt.
After a deluge of teaser images and a downpour of potential drop dates, Off-White™ and Jordan Brand have officially announced the release of the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Sail” and premiered its matching apparel. First previewed by Virgil Abloh himself back in February — shortly after the NBA All-Star Weekend debut of the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic” — this modernized homage to the Air Jordan 5 “Fire Red” continues the designer’s tribute to Michael Jordan, one of his childhood heroes.
Constructed of translucent TPE, featuring a stripped-back build and supplying signature Off-White™ twists like zip ties and Helvetica text, the “Sail” also encourages controlled customization with thin TPE circles that can easily be removed. Other key details include metallic tongue hits, classic midsoles and yellowed interactions of the AJ5’s signature mesh midfoot netting.
Although any die-hard footwear aficionado is undeniably familiar with the shoe’s design at this point due to the aforementioned teasers, Jordan Brand’s announcement makes for the first time its matching apparel has been seen. Hoodies and warmup pants alike blend cream and white tones to accent a duo of branded hits: an OG Air Jordan ball-and-wings logo interspersed with a familiar Off-White™ arrow graphic and a classic Jumpman with an Off-White™ text hit sitting below it. Strings and drawcords feature Abloh’s recognizable “SHOELACES” hit as well. Rounding off the offerings is a white t-shirt with a black illustration of a small child, possibly a young Abloh, dreaming of Michael Jordan.
Rumors placed the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Sail” release on October 24 and then 2021, but it’ll in fact release via Nike SNKRS on October 29 for $225 USD. Apparel will arrive mid-December. In case you missed the drop, GOAT has the collection available now.
