Mountain Research and Reebok's Latest DMX Trail Shadow Salutes '80s Collegiate Style
The ametora-inspired sneakers feature an elegant “Pure Grey” build and plenty of technical details.

Mountain Research and Reebok have presented their third collaborative sneaker of 2020: the DMX Trail Shadow “Pure Grey.” Looking to ’80s East Coast collegiate style for inspiration, the ametora-influenced kicks follow up a wheat-toned DMX Trail Shadow that released in April and an airy Alien Stomper that dropped in May.
Mountain Research’s eye for detailed deconstruction is immediately on full display, with crampon-inspired, cored-out gray plastic midfoot cages overlaying the soft gray suede upper. Perfectly-placed perforations and fabric eyestays add to the minimal-yet-technical look, and a white Mountain Research graphic is stamped on the tongue.
If you look at the tongue’s liner, you’ll see MR’s signature “civil disobedience anarchists mountaineers saunterer + punks” spellout. Heels feature a black stamped “Holiday in the Mountains” graphic. Thick white foam midsoles use wavy white TPU plates for responsive cushioning, a technology dubbed “DMX Shear.” Last but not least, thickly-toothed gray rubber outsoles complete the style.
The Mountain Research x Reebok DMX Trail Shadow “Pure Grey” is set to release via the Mountain Research webstore on October 8, then hit the Reebok webstore a week later on October 15. The MSRP has yet to be announced, but if it’s in line with past Mountain Research Trail Shadow collaborations it’ll be $180 USD.
