YG Blends Street Anthems With Political Protest on New Album 'My Life 4Hunnid'
Featuring Lil Wayne, Tyga, Gunna, Ty Dolla $ign and more.
YG has returned with his fifth studio album, My Life 4Hunnid, out today via Def Jam Recordings. The project was released alongside his latest music video for “Blood Walk” featuring Lil Wayne and D3szn.
YG first introduced his new album through his “Laugh Now Kry Later!” music video and what followed was a strong stream of singles that injected political protest throughout his music. “FTP” was inspired by the wave of mass protests this summer and was even shot during some of the gatherings in Los Angeles. The black and white video intercut videos of police violence for a stark reminder of the times.
YG dedicated his “Swag” music video to Colin Kaepernick, dressing as the quarterback-turned-activist. The rapper even revealed that “Out On Bail” and the project as a whole was deeply influenced by 2Pac. “He went through a lot of the stuff that I’m dealing with right now, and he was making records about it, and just the tone and the cadence of how he was coming up. So that’s a fact, that’s a fun fact,” YG told Zane Lowe of Apple Music.
My Life 4Hunnid is packed with features too with high profile names like Tyga, Lil Tjay, Ty Dolla $ign, Gunna, Calboy Lil Mosey and more all making contributions.
