Cleveland rapper Doe Boy and Atlanta producer and 808 Mafia founder Southside just dropped “Yessirski” — their first collaborative single from their upcoming joint project Demons R Us slated to release later this year.
The instrumental is a hypnotizing array of ambient keys contrasted by Southside’s penchant for hard-hitting drums while Doe Boy rides the beat with a number of different flows. The video takes the rapper’s fans to his hometown for a visual shot on the go. It came together while Doe Boy and Southside’s upcoming joint project was finalizing. “I was in Miami working on the album with Southside. The video was me using my traditional formula, going to the hood and shooting organically with no real direction. Those always end up being my favorite videos.”
As for how the rapper has been holding up during the ongoing coronavirus quarantines, he told HYPEBEAST, “COVID ain’t stopping nothing we still running that bag up so it ain’t bothering me. I still stay in the studio all the time. I actually been working more on my music since COVID especially as far as shooting music videos and putting time into other aspects of my career.”
Doe Boy’s new venture with Southside will be his third project in less than a year — he rattled off the fan-favorite Streetz Need Me 2 at the end of December and connected with DJ Esco for their 56 Birdz EP. But “Yessirski” and Demons R Us both build on a pre-existing chemistry between the two artists. “We been f*cking wit each other since I was like 15-16 before we both blew up. So we always had a relationship. It’s just perfect timing for us to finally link up and do what we supposed to had been done,” Doe Boy said.
