Los Angeles Lakers Defeat Miami Heat to Become the 2020 NBA Champions
The franchise’s first NBA title in a decade.

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat 106-93 in Game 6 to win the 2020 NBA Finals.
Lead by none other than LeBron James, who also goes home as the NBA Finals MVP, Anthony Davis and head coach Frank Vogel, this marks the Lakers’ 17th NBA title and first since 2010. The team intelligently and aggressively fought their way through Game 6 after being handed a loss over the weekend, playing at high-energy to wear out Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat who were already exhausted from the narrow calls in Game 5.
This year’s NBA Finals were held at the Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida, and was played out with no roaring audience due to COVID-19. The series was almost cancelled, too, after the “wildcat strike” held in late August following the shooting of Jacob Blake.
Elsewhere in sports, Rafal Nadal has won his record-tying 20th Grand Slam title.
