Tinashe Honors Kobe Bryant on Rereleased Version of "Hopscotch"

Kobe Bryant’s tragic passing has undoubtedly taken its toll on those closest to him and especially his global fans. His unquestionable legacy has remained highly-referenced within the world of hip-hop and R&B, and many artists are processing his loss through their music. Kanye West and Chance the Rapper honored him at a recent Sunday Service gospel, Bad Bunny released a new Kobe-themed song, “6 Rings,” Fabulous reworked his 2016 “Black Mamba Freestyle,” and even Sada Baby announced that he’d be sharing a variety of loose singles to honor the late basketball legend and his daughter, Gianna.

Tinashe has joined in on the run of tributes to the Black Mamba, releasing the original version of “Hopscotch” from her recent album, Songs For You. The version features a variety of Kobe references, including the lyric “L.A. like I’m Kobe, been ballin’ kinda nice” and a vocal sample that references Los Angeles’ unique relationship with the sport. Captioning the track via SoundCloud, Tinashe writes “the original version this song, rerelease for KOBE. Rest in power Gigi and Kobe Bryant.”
