The North Face Remixes Heritage With FW19 Icon Collection
Classic Nuptse, Denali and Mountain Jacket silhouettes return.
First introduced in the ’80s, The North Face‘s Icon series has consistently delivered staple outerwear and accessories from the outdoor brand’s archive with subtle contemporary upgrades. For its latest drop, the collection encompasses a series of timeless jackets, accompanied by one of The North Face’s signature bags.
Comprising of the Mountain Jacket GTX II (1990), Retro Mountain Light GTX (1994), Retro Denali (1995), Retro Nuptse (1996) and Base Camp Duffel (1978), the Icon series wearables reinvent the iconic silhouettes with modern day technology, without sacrificing the familiar design cues that fans have come to know and love. Primary color hues (yellow, red and blue) accompany neutral black makeups, granting the winter-ready layering pieces extra versatility.
Updated functionality comes by way of modern GORE-TEX water and windproof textiles that sandwich the insulating thermal tech hidden inside the Mountain Jackets, while the Retro Denali sports weather-fighting fleece that features extra breathability by way of pit-zip venting for transitional comfort.
Meanwhile, the Nuptse Jackets and Vests are free from tinkering, retaining its familiar shape, 700-fill insulation, stowable hood and shiny ripstop shell — if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. The Base Camp Duffel is a step up from its original iteration, with improved detachable straps and a more streamlined design, bolstered by extended zip pockets ideal for phones or wallets.
Look for the Icon series items on The North Face’s Hong Kong site, with the Western branch likely to receive the collection shortly.
