Snapchat Releases 3D Selfie Feature Exclusively for iPhone Owners
The secret is in the notch.
Snap Inc. announced a new 3D selfie feature coming to Snapchat exclusive to owners of the iPhone X and above.
The feature adds depth to photos by capturing spatial detail that changes an images perspective. They’re also adding new 3D Effects in the Filter Carousel that’ll introduce new filters and lenses.
The Snapchat 3D feature is similar to the tech used in the new Spectacles 3, but instead utilizes the tech found in notches of the iPhone X, XS/Max, iPhone 11, and iPhone 11 Pro/Max models. The front facing camera captures the subject’s image, while the spatial technology combines the data on depth recorded and integrates it into the image for the three-dimensional effect.
To access the new feature, users must update their Snapchat app, open the app’s camera, use the dropdown menu on the right, select “3D”, and then take a selfie before swiping through the 3D Lenses and Filters to add other layers. Non iPhone users will be able to see the resulting image, but not produce any of their own.
Check out the footage above, then see why the new iPhone 11 line won’t support 5G networks.
