The latest model is the lead colorway for adidas’ iconic City Series Fall/Winter 2019 season. Dressed in green and red, the color palette is inspired by the Red Rose of Lancashire and is named after the town where Gary Aspden grew up. Additionally “Blackburn” has been embossed in gold detailing on the lateral sides of the sneakers, while Three Stripes and Nightsafe co-branding can be found on the insole.
Interested sneakerheads will be able to get their hands on a pair of the adidas Blackburn SPZL “Nightsafe” edition exclusively from the exhibition. Only 200 pairs will be available and all proceeds will go towards the local youth charity Nightsafe, which aims to support homeless and vulnerably housed young people in the Blackburn with Darwen area. A regular retail version will also release at select adidas retailers and online. The sneakers will be priced at £100 GBP (approximately $124 USD).
The adidas SPEZIAL Exhibition will launch at the Cotton Exchange as part of the British Textile Biennial in Blackburn on Friday, October 4 and run until Sunday, October 20. Over 1,000 pairs of adidas models past and present will be on display along with the special edition Blackburn SPZL.

adidas Blackburn SPZL from adidas Spezial AW19. Image by @gary_watsongraphicdesign and @nathandamour. In keeping with the aesthetic of the adidas ‘city series’ with a colourway inspired by the red rose of Lancashire. These are built on the Athens tooling with a completely new upper pattern (the toe box is my favourite of any Spezial release to date) and Mod Trefoil branded tongue (as was used on the GT Manchester SPZL). 200 pairs of a ‘Nightsafe’ edition of these shoes will be available exclusively from the adidas Spezial exhibition in Blackburn. These 200 pairs will have a Nightsafe branded footbed and the brown leather Spezial swing tag will be in red leather. Priced at £100 – all proceeds from these shoes will go to @nightsafebwd to support the incredible work they are doing for youth homelessness in Blackburn. Release details will be announced ahead of the Spezial exhibition opening. Thanks to @bwdcouncil and @rovers. #adidasspezial #blackburn #britishtextilebiennal #nightsafe

The next Spezial exhibition will take place in Blackburn’s Cotton Exchange as part of the British Textile Biennal. It will be open to the public from the 4th-20th October. This image was taken at last year’s ZX exhibition in London – we are aiming to showcase quadruple the number of shoes that were included there which will make this this by far the biggest Spezial exhibition yet. Highlights will include a full archive of footwear from the Spezial range (including unseen working prototypes) along with a comprehensive presentation of the European city series. This is a free exhibition but there will the opportunity to make charity donations – proceeds from the project will go to @nightsafebwd to support the amazing work they do with youth homelessness. Thanks to all who are spreading the word and to everyone who is working hard behind the scenes right now to make this as good as it can be. We plan to make another major announcement on Thursday 12th September. #adidasspezial #britishtextilebiennial #nightsafe
