Mallrat Gets Nostalgic in "Charlie" Music Video
The video is directed by Tim Hardy.
Mallrat makes another perfect anti-pop anthem with her new record “Charlie.” To go along with the release, the 20-year-old Brisbane artist announces her forthcoming EP, Driving Music, will drop on Sept. 6. The song is named after her Golden Labrador and the nostalgic video was shot in 8mm film with Tim Hardy handling direction.
The song touches on her parents’ relationship and the relationship between herself and your mom. When discussing with Paper Magazine, she describes scared she was when making the song. “Well, it’s certainly scary,” she explains. “It’s more just because the songs that I really care about, not even mine necessarily but other people’s –– I think having a song that steals people, you have to be very honest and sometimes that means going into detail about things that are too scary to talk about. So you just put them in a song. I wanted to write a song that would mean something.”
Driving Music is a departure from her sun-dappled pop heard on her 2018 EP, In The Sky. The new release sees Grace experiment with a more melancholic side of pop, while opening up about her family and experiences in her life.
