A$AP Rocky Shares the Trailer for “Babushka Boi”
Paying homage to Chester Gould’ comic strip ‘Dick Tracy.’
A$AP Rocky shares the trailer for “Babushka Boi,” a record he previewed earlier this year in at the Minneapolis, Minn. stop on his ‘Injured Generation’ Tour. The trailer opens with the question “Why does this black boy wear a babushka?” and proceeds to show a number of cartoon-ish characters while using Russian subtitles. The video looks to be referencing Chester Gould’ comic strip Dick Tracy with the styling of the clothing and the characters presented.
Last year, A$AP Rocky appeared at LACMA’s 2018 Art+Film Gala and sent social media ablaze with the debut of his babushka headscarves look. “I’m encouraging all guys to wear babushkas from here on out. Silk gang, silk city,” he said of his choice to wear the babushka back in November.
