Yung Bans' Debut Album 'Misunderstood' Features Future, Young Thug, Gunna & More
19 new tracks from the young up-and-comer.
Towards the end of last month, Yung Bans linked up with Shoreline Mafia rapper OhGeesy, D Savage and Ron-Ron for a collaborative single titled “On A Broke Bitch.” Now, following up his self-titled Volume 5 EP from last summer, Bans is serving up his debut studio album, Misunderstood. Made up of 19 new songs, Bans’ Misunderstood LP features collaborations with Future, Young Thug, Gunna, YNW Melly and more, as well as production cooked up by Wheezy, Nick Mira, Kenny Beats, Smoko Ono, Chopsquad DJ, Charlie Handsome, Wondagurl, Take a Daytrip and others. Further supporting and promoting his new release, Yung Bans is also unveiling a music video for the Misunderstood opener “Going Wild.”
“When I made my first song I was at a skatepark,” Yung Bans revealed to us for a March 2018 profile, opening up about his back-story. “This dude came [up to me], he had a studio up and said, ‘You look like you rap.’ It was so weird how God work. I didn’t look like no rapper. But he said, ‘I got a studio in my house and if you come back tomorrow we can record.’ I went back home and wrote two songs. I rapped to the instrumental from The Underachievers and made my own version.”
“Music isn’t all about lyrics, it’s the sounds,” Bans added, sharing some insight into the artistic approach that birthed Misunderstood. “I don’t know how to describe it, I’m just doing me, I’m just living it.”
