Take a Closer Look at Ferrari's Most Powerful Road Car Ever
The hybrid SF90 Stradale.
Early in May, Ferrari unveiled its most powerful road car yet: the SF90 Stradale. With the reveal came along an array of the plug-in hybrid’s specs, such as its ability to push a stellar 986 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque thanks to the combination of a 4.0L turbocharged V8 and three electric motors. Now, British motor show and magazine Top Gear has offered enthusiasts of the Prancing Horse a closer look at the new machine.
Deputy editor Jack Rix dropped by Ferrari’s newest Mayfair showroom in London for the first public look at the SF90. “It’s more of a hypercar than a supercar,” he says. “Compared to the pictures, it’s a lot more dramatic in person. It’s lower. It’s wider. It’s got that incredible presence that all Ferraris have.” Describing the exterior of the beast, Rix says that “The cabin is slightly further forward than you normally get with a mid-engine Ferrari. The overhang’s slightly shorter. The rear end — the tail — slightly higher. That’s all in the name of aero.” When it comes to the design, “everything has a function.”
Moving to the interior, Rix says that the new model is “cleaner, sleeker” as all the buttons have been rearranged, with large touchscreens taking the place of conventional dashboards, streamlining functionality. The Stradale provides drivers with four different driving modes: the E-mode makes the car a front-wheel-drive full electric vehicle; the hybrid mode engages the engine occasionally to balance performance with economy; the performance mode keeps the engine on permanently; and the qualifier mode basically dials everything up to 11 — giving you maximum performance.
