Following his previous album for Mello Music Group, the Apollo Brown-assisted Mona Lisa, Joell Ortiz is introducing his next project by delivering a new collaborative single with Big K.R.I.T., “Learn You.” Today’s release serves as our first taste of Ortiz’s new Monday LP, which also features contributions from Nottz, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Heatmakerz and others.

“Working with K.R.I.T. was super dope! We basically had long conversations over the phone about life and human things for about a week or so before we even talked about music. Just vibing. ‘Learn You’ was basically one of those convos turned audio,” Joel Ortiz shares via an official statement, opening up about the origins of his new collaboration with Big K.R.I.T. “We talked about how the sacrifices we make to chase dreams are heavy. His production and choice of words in that hook made me tell my sons I’m sorry for the first time in my life. Hope y’all enjoy this song as much as I do.”

“I’m back to work. Monday is the start of the week. The grind!” Joell adds, breaking down his forthcoming Monday LP. “Working people normally dread Mondays. Not me though; I embrace them! Feels like another opportunity. Another chance. The beginning of what’s ahead. On Monday I talk about life. Old me, new me, and the guy that next Monday may introduce to you all.”

You can check out Joell Ortiz and Big K.R.I.T.’s new collaborative single “Learn You” below, while Ortiz’s forthcoming studio album, Monday, is scheduled to see release on August 30 via Mello Music Group. Monday is currently available for pre-order via iTunes and similar outlets.

At the start of this week, Big K.R.I.T. recruited Lil Wayne and Saweetie for a single of his own, “Addiction.”
