An emotional ballad that recalls R&B’s golden era—written, produced, and mixed entirely by Amiide.
Amiide, the R&B singer-songwriter and producer gaining recognition in Japan and abroad after being selected as an emerging artist to watch by the U.K.’s BBC Radio, has released “It’s about us,” the advance single from his mini-album Conversations, due out Wednesday, October 28.
“It’s about us” is a ballad pairing Amiide’s expressive vocals with an R&B sound reminiscent of 2000s Mariah Carey and Brandy. Amiide took the reins on every stage of the track, from songwriting and production to mixing. The song also has an unusual origin story: its foundation was a beat originally created for m-flo’s “come again” remix competition, then shelved. Drawn to the track, Amiide developed it into an original song, layering in lyrics about finding a sense of security beyond the excitement and anxieties of past relationships, learning to love oneself more deeply, and coming to recognize true love.
The track was actually made for m-flo’s “come again” remix competition, but I loved the beat so much that I decided to turn it into an original song.
2000s R&B is truly at the root of my sound, and this may be my favorite song I’ve made so far.
For the cover art, I asked Sho Hanafusa, a former upperclassman from my college days in California who also served as art director at COMPLEX magazine in New York. He designed it using photos from my wedding.
This is the strongest track I’ve made, so I really hope you’ll listen. I’d recommend it as a wedding song, too.

Amiide
Amiide is a Japanese R&B singer-songwriter based in Tokyo and London. After graduating from a Los Angeles college with a degree in film, he returned to Japan to pursue music. In 2020, CIRRRCLE, the hip-hop crew he belonged to, disbanded. His 2018 release “Fast Car” landed on Spotify’s global New Music Friday playlist, drawing attention in Japan and abroad. After a brief hiatus, he released the solo track “Better Miss Me” in August 2021, earning coverage from BBC 1Xtra and other outlets and attracting attention in the U.K. Released in February 2022, “Picnic In The Park” was featured on the major Young & Free playlist and has been heard around the world. In 2023, he formed the unit Otomodatchi with former CIRRRCLE rapper Jyodan; on July 6, they served as the opening act for TAIL. In 2025, Amiide received the Surf Select Award in the “come again” remix contest co-hosted by SURF Music and m-flo. In 2026, a track he produced won the top prize in the Noriko Kose “Still I Miss You” Sampling Contest, co-hosted by three entities: Tribe, a sub-label of Hydeout Productions founded by Nujabes; Hypebeast; and SURF Music. That February, “Moving on,” his collaboration with U.K.-based artists ROMderful and Saïna, was released through Hypetrak and selected by BBC Introducing, which featured them as artists to watch in the U.K.
