Since its reveal last month, Ferrari has been showing off its upcoming SF90 Stradale, as it is the automakers most powerful production, with a powertrain poised to be used in future models. In the visuals above, we get to see how the plug-in hybrid’s four powertrain modes work, which are controlled by a few buttons on the lower left side of the steering wheel.
The “eD” button is for pure electric driving, which allows the 7.9-kWh battery behind the seats to send energy to two electric motors in the front, which powers the vehicle for up to 15 miles as a front-wheel-drive coupe.
In Hybrid mode, the car efficiently sends power to the front electric motors and a third between the engine and transmission while its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 work the rear wheels. This button has an “H.” When switched to performance mode, the constantly running ICE puts priority on the battery charge level.
The Qualify mode, indicated by the clock icon on the wheel, allows the powertrain to perform at its full potential, where it is capable of a total output of 986 horsepower.
