Raf Simons & adidas Unveil Full Trompe-L’œil SS19 Footwear Collection
Stan Smiths and adilettes given a whole new look.
After giving a first look at the collection back in January, Raf Simons and adidas have now revealed the full trompe-l’œil-inspired footwear pack. French for “deceive the eye,” trompe-l’œil is a painting technique designed to create an optical illusion in the artwork.
The Spring/Summer 2019 collection from adidas and Raf Simons features five Stan Smith designs — which were teased earlier this year — as well as the adilette slider silhouette that’s also been reworked in the same style.
For the collection, Simons chose five archival adidas silhouettes — including the Micropacer, L.A. Trainer and Torsion Conquest Super — which are then photographed and 3-D modeled to fit the two styles. As a reference to the archival sneakers, the new creations include stains, exposed glue and other signs of wear-and-tear. The Stan Smith also features the signature R perforated branding.
The Raf Simons x adidas Stan Smith is set to launch on April 12, while the adilette will arrive on May 17. Both will be available via the adidas web store and select stockists.
