After remastering the classic tennis sneaker with tonal colorways, Raf Simons has taken a more nuanced approach to his latest adidas Stan Smith release. The Belgian wunderkind introduced a quartet of styles that reference classic adidas running sneakers via clever Trompe L’oeil (French for “deceive the eye”) paint jobs. Thanks to 3D modeling, photographs of the Micropacer, L.A. Trainer and Torsion Conquest Super were superimposed upon the upper of the Stan Smith, blending faux distressing with retro touches. All three of the 2-for-1 sneakers, retain Simons’ signature “R” on the medial side, in place of the usual Three Stripes branding.
The latest adidas by Raf Simons sneakers will receive a global release in April, but first drop at Paris’ Tom Greyhound boutique, where they’ll be on sale through the end of Paris Fashion Week, where Simons recently showed his FW19 collection.
Most recently, Simons and adidas debuted the RS Detroit High sneakerboot.
