DaBaby Sees Comedy as a Creative Tool
He also talks about his long road to success and signing to Interscope.
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with DaBaby to discuss his long road to success, signing to Interscope Records and using comedy as a creative tool.
Charlotte rapper DaBaby broke out in 2016 with his mixtape God’s Work: Resurrected and changed his rap moniker from Baby Jesus to DaBaby the following year. Over the last few years, he has steadily been growing his fanbase with solid music and utilizing comedy in his music video, something he thinks is what separates him from his peers.
“I ain’t afraid to be creative,” he said to HYPEBEAST. “Ni**as will sit around, play around and joke around all day but feel like as soon as the camera comes on they got to be the toughest ni**a in the world.”
Most recently, DaBaby dropped his major label debut, Baby On Baby, which is led by his standout hit, “Walker Texas Ranger.” The LP features guest appearances from Stunna 4 Vegas, Rich The Kid, Rich Homie Quan, and Offset, well as production from Jetsonmade.
He will also be going on the road for his upcoming ‘Baby On Baby Tour,’ which begins March 29 in Oklahoma City and ends May 11 in Raleigh, N.C.
