The Vatican Deals With the Dilemma of Two Pontiffs in HBO's 'The New Pope'
Starring Jude Law & John Malkovich.
HBO has released the official full trailer for its forthcoming TV series, The New Pope, helmed by decorated Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino.
A continuation of the 2016 show The Young Pope, this second season sees Pope Pius XIII (Jude Law) — the first American pontiff — waking up from his coma to challenge Pope John Paul III (John Malkovich) for the one and only holy title. As the Vatican deals with impending scandals and the unusual dilemma of having two living popes, Pius XIII and John Paul III battle it out in the unholiest ways while ensuring that the public continues to see them as men of God. Ending the trailer with the bible verse, “Whoever is without sin shall cast the first stone,” The New Pope will exhibit the secretly blasphemous acts both religious figures are capable of doing as they take on the papacy.
Watch the official trailer above. The New Pope premiers January 10, 2020 on Sky Atlantic and January 13, 2020 on HBO and Canal+.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Mindhunter star Jonathan Groff is joining The Matrix 4.
