Jude Law Stars as the First American Pontiff in 'The Young Pope'
The Vatican gets dark.
Known for the likes of last year’s critically-acclaimed Youth, Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino is taking on the Vatican with his upcoming eight-episode miniseries, The Young Pope. Entirely written and directed by Sorrentino, The Young Pope stars Jude Law as “the complex and conflicted Pius XIII, the first American pope.” The series is a group effort, co-produced by the American HBO, British Sky, and the French Canal+ television networks. The trailer for the series, above, shows off Sorrentino’s penchant for moody aesthetics.
Check it out and look for Law’s fictional pontiff to debut on Sky and Canal+ later this year before making his way to HBO.
