First 'Black Widow' Trailer Spotlights the Rise of Scarlett Johansson's Powerful Avenger
The first chapter of MCU’s Phase 4.
After a few lucky fans got to see the Black Widow teaser trailer shown during San Diego Comic-Con, which was held earlier this year, Marvel Studios has finally dropped the anticipated trailer online for the public.
Marking the first chapter of Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s Phase 4, the hype surrounding the project is high. Acting as the first Black Widow standalone film, the prequel will center on the character’s rise, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson, in becoming an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and ultimately a powerful Avenger. The clip kicks off with dialogue heard in Avengers: Endgame where Natasha Romanoff tells Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, “I used to have nothing, then I got this job, this family. I was better because of it. I’ve made mistakes, I can’t go back.”
The trailer also includes flashback scenes from past Marvel films in the beloved franchise as well as first looks at David Harbour‘s Red Guardian character and Florence Pugh, as another assassin named Yelena Belova who also uses the Black Widow moniker, fighting Johansson’s Romanoff. We also get a look at Rachel Weisz’s Red Room trainer Melina, who is rumored to secretly be the film’s villain Taskmaster, previously thought to be O-T Fagbenle of The Handmaid’s Tale. Beautiful filming locations from London, Budapest and Morocco can also be seen.
Black Widow takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War and releases May 1, 2020. Johansson first stepped into the role of the deadly assassin in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
In more entertainment news, Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man is reported to appear in Black Widow.
