Anderson.Paak Talks About Gaining Confidence, Recording 'Malibu' and More
We sit down with Anderson.Paak for our latest ‘Conversations With’ interview.
Oxnard-based artist Anderson.Paak stopped by the HYPEBEAST offices in our latest installment of Conversations With to discuss the early days of his Los Angeles career and gaining confidence in his music. Although the artist has proven himself to be a talented individual, he soon learned during his 10-year stint in Los Angeles, talent isn’t enough to make a break within the music industry. He gives thanks to the many folks in his circle for providing him with help during the roughest moments of those 10 years.
The NxWorries singer/rapper also talks about his breakthrough project Malibu, and the creative process of making the tracks included. He divulged that while creating music, his music is the only tunes he listens to. Once the track is right and available to all, however, he can’t bear to listen to it again.
Being around creatives during his developmental years, he always wanted to maintain his own unique sound, even when he wasn’t too confident about it. However, super-producer Dr. Dre (who gave Paak a prominent role on his 2015 soundtrack Compton) allowed him to lean into his creativity, which ultimately lead to his breakthrough album.
