In 2009, Michael Jordan was inducted into the basketball Hall of Fame and delivered a speech during which he famously said, “Limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.” This quote would later be referenced for the Air Jordan 1 Retro High “Fearless UNC Chicago” shoe, which encapsulates Jordan’s journey from UNC Chapel Hill to the Windy City of Chicago. Released 10 years after the speech, the sneaker has amassed an average sale price of $331 USD on StockX and is trading at 75% over the MSRP.
This shoe, which is a part of the Air Jordan 1 “Fearless Ones” collection, symbolically merges “UNC University” blue and “Chicago Varsity” red colorways with additional detailing that includes white underlays, a white midsole, black swoosh logos, a black tongue and a red outsole. Printed along the insoles is the aforementioned reference to the iconic HOF speech by Michael Jordan, with a line through the word FEAR. Prime materialization rounds out the silhouette, with a patent leather upper and black and gold jeweled wings near the ankle collar.
