Janelle Monáe Stars in Horror Movie About the 'Antebellum' South
Depicting slavery through the lens of a horror film.
From the producers of Get Out and Us comes a new horror film starring Janelle Monáe called Antebellum. The film is set to focus on a successful author named Veronica Henley (Monáe) traveling between present-day and the horrifying and titular pre-American Civil War period. She then must uncover the time-traveling mystery before it’s too late.
Although not much is known about this mystery project, it was written and produced by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, who are both responsible for highlighting social issues in their work, an example of which can be found in the duo’s JAY-Z’s politically charged “Kill JAY-Z” music video. The footage above also showcases haunting imagery of a plantation and the horrors of slavery. The film is also set to star Marque Richardson II, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, and more.
