KYE Creates Special Capsule Collection for Onitsuka Tiger's 70th Anniversary
Assisting in the Japanese footwear brand’s year-long celebrations.
2019 marks 70 years since Onitsuka Tiger was founded in Japan, and the performance-turned-lifestyle brand has been celebrating its milestone with seven collaborative capsules, the latest of which is a co-branded effort by way of Kathleen Kye, the creative director of KYE.
For the footwear offering, the two brands have opted to update the classic Onitsuka Tiger GSM. Inspired by vintage tennis shoes in both style and name — GSM is an abbreviation for “Game, Set, Match” — the design features a yin and yang of black and white that represents day and night. A silver zipper replaces the standard lacing system, and a timeless gum outsole rounds off the look.
The shoes are also accompanied by a tracksuit and track pants. The tracksuit offers a large white star on its front, a KYE-branded charm on the pull tab, and an engraved Onitsuka Tiger logo on the fastener. The pants move the star graphic to the back, and offer a relaxed, roomy fit for comfort. Each piece adds sporty flair by way of red and white piping on its sides.
The entire collection will release on October 21 at onitsukatiger.com and select stockists. Prices have yet to be announced.
In other footwear news, Kanye West‘s adidas Yeezy Boost 700 “Teal Blue” has received an official release date.
