Independent Art Fair and Object & Thing to Team Up on Design-Focused Presentation
Building a bridge between art and design.

Must-see New York shows Independent Art Fair and Object & Thing have announced a collaborative presentation that will take place during Independent’s upcoming fair in March 2020. Organized by Object & Thing founder Abby Bangser and artistic director Rafael de Cárdenas, the presentation will showcase various object-based works pulled from NYC-based independent exhibitors and design galleries, including Patrick Parrish Gallery, R & Company, Toogood, Volume Gallery and more.
The presentation will mark the first time design and object-focused galleries will be showing at Independent Art Fair, as the exhibition previously focused solely on contemporary art. The collaboration claims to be a new type of design presentation by combining works in a single dedicated installation rather than organizing them by gallery. Additionally, there will be no hierarchy or distinction between art and design objects.
Independent Art Fair and Object & Thing’s collaborative presentation will be held from March 6-8, 2020 at Spring Studios. A few months later, Object & Thing will host its second edition from May 7-10, 2020 leading up to New York Design Week.
Elsewhere in design, Virgil Abloh’s Special Edition Figures of Speech has been given an official release date.
