Our next sneaker that we take a closer look at is the collaboration between Hundred%, SneakerLAH, and ASICS Malaysia. Themed after nasi lemak, the shoe’s colorway takes inspiration from many of the ingredients that go into making the celebrated Malay rice dish. The GEL-Kayano 5 OG‘s uppers feature the colors green, red, white, and yellow, meant to represent the cucumber, chilli paste, white rice, and egg that the dish is comprised of. The hits of brown at the toe and midsole are meant to reference the final garnishes of the dish — toasted peanuts and fried anchovies.
The sneaker is highly texturized via suede, nylon mesh, and leather material, where each panel is further heightened by the bold color palette. One detail you may have missed can be found at the toe portion of the mudguard, where a small cutout is present with a green textured material underneath; this is meant to signify the pandan leaf in which nasi lemak is often served on.
