Once your system’s voice is switched, Rae will be able to tell you what the weather forecast is and answer select questions you have throughout the day. True Rae’s successful career as a comedian and her inspiring role on the HBO series Insecure, Rae’s voice will also be able to tell various jokes or give motivational advice. Becoming the voice of an operating system like Google Assistant seems to be the ultimate voice acting role, but it didn’t come easy. Rae told CNN in a recent interview that she endured “a pretty intensive process” where she had to say “various sentences that did not make any sense” and “so many words that I have never ever pronounced before.” She continued to describe the process as a first in her career. “It was unique. I’d never done anything like that before,” she said.
Issa Rae is Google Assistant’s second celebrity voice, following musician John Legend‘s takeover earlier this year. Rae’s voice will only be available in English for a limited time for Google Assistants in the US.
