Nike & Chelsea Bring NikeConnect Technology to Football for the First Time
The new third kit lets fans access exclusive experiences.
Fresh from unveiling Manchester City’s third kit, Nike is back with the new kit that will be worn by Chelsea in some of its games this season. The stand-out feature of the new teal kit is the print that runs across the jersey. On close inspection, the pattern is revealed to be an aerial view of Stamford Bridge — the club’s home stadium — and the surrounding area. Designed to be worn in European away games, the kit will provide a link to London even when the team is away.
The Chelsea third kit is also the first time that NikeConnect technology has been used on a football kit. A logo on the shirt label can be scanned through the Nike app, which will allow fans to access exclusive product, content and experiences. This function also means they can take part in the development of a special Chelsea FC Shirtholder’s Edition “Fan Jersey.” This process will see fans collaborate with Nike designers to create a special “Fan Jersey.” NikeConnect has previously been used on NBA jerseys. Chelsea’s third kit is available from the Nike web store now.
