OMEGA's "Speedy Tuesday" Model is an Ultraman-Inspired Timepiece
Containing a slew of references to the series.
As a part of its “Speedy Tuesday” offering, Swiss watchmaker OMEGA has produced a limited edition 42 mm timepiece inspired by the 1966 series Ultraman. The timepiece has an abundance of 1970’s Japanese sci-fi reference, and even shares a distinction with the OMEGA’s 1967 “Moonwatch.”
The watch made an appearance in the fourth installment of the series called The Return of Ultraman for its orange seconds hand and the new Ultraman piece dons that same hand, embracing the same dimensions and shade of orange. As an extension of this theme, the new watch also features a black/orange bezel in anodized aluminum. The first three minutes of the timepiece is in orange as an homage to Ultraman’s ability to only stay in superhero-mode for 3 minutes.
On the seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, there’s a hidden silhouette of Ultraman’s profile, which is revealed by a special tool available with the watch. The strap changer features a UV lamp at one end identical to Ultraman’s Beta Capsule that reveals an imaged highlighted over the dial. Limited to just 2,012 pieces, the OMEGA Speedmaster 42 mm “Ultraman” can be reserved on OMEGA’s online store for $7100 USD.
