Idris Elba to Play Villain in Dwayne Johnson's 'Fast and Furious' Spinoff

Idris Elba is in final negotiations to play the villain in the upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. Hobbs and Shaw will see the two aforementioned actors reprising their Fast and Furious characters, special agent Luke Hobbs and professional criminal Deckard Shaw, respectively utilizing a buddy cop formula as its hook.
This is one of Elba’s few roles as a villain following his infamous role as Stringer Bell in the TV series The Wire, to more recent outings in Star Trek Beyond and Shere Khan in the live-action The Jungle Book. Deadpool 2 director David Leitch is the official director for the franchise’s upcoming ninth entry and it’s expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2019.
