Michael B. Jordan Kept a Diary for Killmonger During 'Black Panther'

Following his appearance at the Met Gala, a hoarse-voiced Michael B. Jordan dropped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to talk Killmonger and Black Panther. It wasn’t long before Colbert brought up the smash hit Marvel film, particularity with regards to how Jordan approached getting into character.

“I write journals for every character that I have, from the earliest memory up until the first page of the script. For me, it just kind of gives you context,” Jordan responded. “For [Killmonger], his was particularly dark. It was a very sad journal, not having his mom growing up, [being] in and out of the system [in] foster care, foster homes and whatnot.”

He went on to say that adopting Killmonger’s mindset involved “a lot of dark stuff,” explaining that it’s “probably not right” to talk about it on this show. “But it was deep and allowed me to go to that place right before a scene,” he added. “It allowed me to lock in.”
