A Recap of New Balance's Worldwide 990 Legends Activation
A spectacle that brought the 990 back to its OG price.
Earlier this month, New Balance brought its NB 990 Legends Activation to 15 locations internationally. Honoring the silhouette that stood at the peak of comfort and performance in the 1980s, the Boston-based imprint, for one-day only, made the 990 available for its original price of $100 USD.
Capturing the spectacle at New Balance’s New York flagship in the Flatiron district, attendees arrived to an installation outside the stockist. Using a vamped-up freight container, the footwear’s history and its four iterations were chronologized in a physical timeline that made sure to harken back to key moments within its lineage. In-store, guests quickly grabbed their own pairs of the limited release, as the grey-swathed 990s sold-out in a mere hour.
