MTV Is Relaunching 'Yo! MTV Raps'
In celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary.

MTV is relaunching their classic show Yo! MTV Raps. The Ted Demme and Peter Dougherty-created show originally aired from 1988 to 1995 and was the first hip hop music show on the network. The show produced a mix of rap videos, interviews with hip-hop artists, comedy sketches and live in-studio performances. It made a return in 2011 as a single throwback episode.
The relaunch will kick off with an all-star concert celebration of the show’s 30th anniversary which will take place June 1 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The show will be live-streamed by MTV and will feature a line-up of hip-hop veterans including Dr. Dre, KRS-One, Eric B. & Rakim, Flavor Flav, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Kid Capri and more. Show hosts Fab 5 Freddy, Ed Lover and Doctor Dré will also make appearances.
