Toyota Unveils a Basketball-Playing Robot
It waxed a local team in a shootout competition.
Inspired by popular manga series Slam Dunk, Toyota engineers have developed a robot with functionality to shoot perfect free throws. Artificial intelligence was used to teach the machine how to shoot, and it’s granted mobility by the wheels attached to its base.
Although the 6’2” robot essentially performs the same clunky movements over and over again, it consistently hit enough shots to outperform local B-league basketball team Alvark Tokyo in a shootout competition.
