After releasing a patriotic kit for France, Nike has continued the role out of football kits for the 2018 World Cup with a new capsule for Portugal. The home kit — which comes in the country’s classic red and green color palette — also features touches of gold, a reference to Portugal’s triumph in the 2016 European Championships.

Elsewhere, the capsule also features a pre-match jersey, adorned with a large Portuguese cross, and a white and green away shirt, with an all-over pattern of compass points that reference the country’s history of exploring and its discovery of fresh talent. Another key influence on the collection is captain Cristiano Ronaldo, with Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director, describing him as a Portuguese hero. We wanted to tell the story of the modern king of football leading this new team.” Portugal’s new home kit will launch via the Nike web store on March 23, with the away kit following on April 26.

In related news, FIFA has announced that Video Assistant Referees are to be used during the tournament.
